Mid-Atlantic Chapter of Women’s Interactive Network (WIN) Employee Resource Group

In 2012, Janney’s Women’s Interactive Network (WIN) Employee Resource Group (ERG) was created to improve the business and professional environment for all with an emphasis on the advancement, retention, and recruitment of women. After successful growth of this ERG in the home office, the Mid Atlantic Chapter (MAC WIN) was created in 2019 to encourage corporate engagement and community activities at a local level with our regional offices. MAC WIN was started with six branch locations across the Mid-Atlantic region including Baltimore, Bel Air, Washington DC, Quarry Lake, Towson and Westminster. MAC WIN has brought employees across those branches together in ways that were formerly only available to employees at the home office and they are now serving as a guide for other regions.

Q4 2019 Education Funding Campaign
Using a cross-organizational approach, Janney’s practice management, financial planning, investment management, and marketing teams launched an Education Funding Campaign. Client material was packaged into one easy-to-use toolkit for Financial Advisors, including content (thought leadership pieces, web, social posts, ads and seminars) designed to raise awareness and inclusion of education funding into our clients’ financial plans. Given the demographic profile of our client base, we emphasized the tax advantages of using 529 plans as a wealth transfer tool, providing insight and advice to our target audience. Beyond the internal team, we partnered with our asset management 529 provider partners who presented at Financial Advisor educational conferences, spoke on internal education calls and training days, and conducted email campaigns that complemented and reinforced our own internal promotion.

Initiative
Private Client Associate Development Program
The role of a Registered Private Client Associate (PCA) has predominantly been to support a Financial Advisor with administrative tasks. Janney developed the Registered PCA Development Program to help Registered and Senior Registered PCAs develop adapt to a changing business environment where advice beyond investments is needed for an enhanced client experience. This is done by increasing participant’s knowledge in three key areas: Financial Planning, Data Analysis/Business Opportunities, and Implementation of CRM. The program provides opportunity for growth and supports practice growth by giving the PCA the skills necessary to understand and present basic financial plans to clients, create efficiencies, and generate business opportunities using Janney’s tools and resources.

Reg BI App Suite

The goal of Regulation Best Interest (Reg BI) is to ensure a client’s interests remain ahead of any financial firm when recommending a security or investment strategy involving securities.  This ruling brings a litany of associated obligations onto financial advisors and brokerage firms in categories of disclosures and timing, the exercise of care throughout the client and account lifecycle, and handling of conflicts of interest.    To mitigate overhead, our new related initiative – a Reg BI App suite – was built to leverage technology to help Janney advisors with efficiencies in managing their respective practices with Reg BI components baked in. We believe this also gives Janney financial advisors a competitive advantage.
